What are some Tips on Maintaining a Balanced Lifestyle while Working in a Philippine Call Center?

  1. Maintain a Balanced Diet
  2. Keep Yourself Hydrated
  3. Get some Rest and Relaxation
  4. Be Physically Active
  5. Spend Time Socializing

Working in a Philippine call center can be taxing to most people who try it out for the first time. Working at night, having to sleep during the day, and having a rigorous work schedule are just some of the many things that can overwhelm a typical call center agent.

It’s an unhealthy routine no matter how you look at it. However, there are many things that you can do to maintain a balanced lifestyle as a call center agent. If you want to live a balanced lifestyle while working in a Philippine call center, here are 5 tips that will help you along the way:

 Balanced Diet

Maintain a Balanced Diet

Eat healthily. This is advice that is given to everyone in order to live a healthy life. This is doubly important for people working in call centers. Call center agents who work the graveyard shifts should never forget to eat healthily. Working the night shift will have an effect on your body because of the sudden change in your sleep schedule.

You should not be satisfied with eating processed food; things like junk food, canned goods, or packed lunches bought from convenience stores. Most of these types of food have preservatives that can have a negative effect on your health.

Start by bringing homemade lunches to work. It can start simple at first, but at least you know what your eating was freshly cooked that morning. You should also make it a habit to bring fruits as snacks instead of junk food like potato chips.

Make sure that you eat a balanced diet. Eat your share of fruits and vegetables and do not let yourself get too hungry. While working, use your breaks wisely. Keep your body nourished and your lifestyle will follow suit.

Also, be aware of what you eat and how it might affect your voice. Make sure that anything you eat won’t have any negative impact on your voice as it is your main tool for your work.

 Keeping Yourself Hydrated

Keep Yourself Hydrated

Speaking of taking care of your voice, you should always keep yourself hydrated. Avoid drinking cold water. As a call center agent, drinking room-temperature water should be enough for you.

Speaking of staying hydrated, stick to just drinking water. Drink coffee and energy drinks moderately. Coffee may be able to give you a temporary boost to your alertness, same with energy drinks. But too much of both is not good for your body.

 Rest and Relaxation

Get Some Rest and Relaxation

The life of a call center agent in the Philippines will be stressful. Talking to clients all day and possibly getting scolded for something totally out of your power can be taxing to people. Philippine call centers are usually multinational companies. Because of this, they would usually be working for foreign clients. These foreign clients, commonly Americans can be very direct at times, not backing down until they get what they want. Because of the Filipino culture, you may find this rude and impolite. However, it is all part of the job and all you can do is tolerate it.

It is important to not let the stress take over. Learn the art of relaxation. Breathe in and breathe out until you find yourself totally relaxed. You should not neglect to rest. Strive to get a good amount of sleep, preferably 7 to 8 hours, to keep your bodily functions going normally.

Stress will always be by your side when you work in a call center. Make sure to find ways to counter this by getting enough rest and relaxation when you can.

 Be Physically Fit

Be Physically Active

Working in a call center will usually entail sitting down all day, facing your computer and talking to multiple clients. Though it is relatively simple and relaxing to a few, it is not ideal for people to be sitting down for 7 hours a day. If you do this without any other kind of exercise, your physique will suffer some consequences.

Strive to find time to work out and exercise to counteract the hours of basically doing nothing. Simple exercises such as jogging, jumping jacks and squats are enough to help you maintain your physique. Constant exercise will be a great way to avoid gaining weight and keep your blood circulation going.

 Spend Time Socializing

Spend Time Socializing

You may be working at night, but that doesn’t mean you should stop socializing with your friends and family. In fact, it makes it a whole lot more important. Always find quality time with your friends and family. The time you spend with them will help you cope with the relatively lonely time you’ll start to have that comes with working the graveyard shift.

Key Takeaway

Working in a Philippine call center has its benefits, particularly the high salary and good benefits, but it also comes with a lot of disadvantages, particularly for the health of employees. With that in mind, you should always strive to have a balanced lifestyle by doing any of the things mentioned above.
